Acne

There are two types of Acne.. Inflamed and Non-Inflamed.

Inflamed Acne presents on the skin as very red, angry pimples that are usually deep and sore underneath the skin. It will be a mixture of pustular breakouts (pustules) on the surface, and larger non-pustular lesions (papules, nodules and cysts).

Whereas Non-Inflamed Acne is a little more on the subtle side, consisting of open and closed comedones or the face becoming studded with white heads.

We’ve put together two blogs that covers it all:

The Basics

Triggers

Acne can be triggered by a variety of factors, including hormonal changes (such as those during puberty or menstrual cycles), stress, and certain medications. Additionally, environmental factors like pollution and the use of pore-clogging skincare products can contribute to breakouts. Understanding these triggers can help in managing and preventing acne.

Pigmentation

Pigmentation is our skin’s natural defence system from UVR and other forms of topical and internal inflammation. It’s a reactive response to damage being inflicted on the skin cells.

This damage then presents in the form of pigmentation – ie  little brown spots, larger brown splotches or darkening of localised areas. These can be present on any part of the body – usually areas with the most amount of sun exposure.

A quick tip to avoid pigmentation you ask? ALWAYS wear SPF, rain, hail or shine. There are a range of different SPF strengths and consistencies that will be prescribed to suit you and your lifestyle!

See our blog below for tonnes of more information on pigmentation, including lifestyle tips on how to best prevent it!

Rosacea

Rosacea is a chronic skin disorder commonly effecting the cheeks, chin and nose. It is an inflammatory condition presenting with variable symptoms.

Initial symptoms present as flushing which becomes more frequent and eventually leads to persistent facial redness. Skin becomes hyper-reactive/sensitive due to sensitive and swollen blood vessels.

There unfortunately isn’t an exact cause of rosacea. However there can be a combinations of factors and triggers that can exacerbate rosacea.
